The Cashiers-Highlands region of North Carolina's Blue Ridge Mountains has been a cherished mountain retreat for Southern families since the late 1800's. Perched on the crest of the mountains, and averaging 10 - 15 degrees cooler than the surrounding areas, these rustically stylish towns have been enjoyed by generations of families for their authentic mountain charm, ideal climate and classic small town character.
Legend has it that, in 1879, developers Samuel Kelsey and Clinton Hutchison took out a map and drew two lines – one connecting New York to New Orleans, the other connecting Chicago to Savannah. The men believed the spot where the lines intersected would be the ideal location for a vacation town. The spot was Highlands, North Carolina.
Strategically located on the shores of Lake Glenville at the edge of an ancient hardwood forest, the Lake House at Katie Camp is a private mountain retreat set amidst the stunning natural beauty, cascading waterfalls and pristine, azure lakes of North Carolina's famed Blue Ridge Mountains.
At 3,400 feet elevation, Lake Glenville, the highest lake east of the Mississippi River, is fed by five mountain rivers and streams. Its 1,460 acres, including three spectacular waterfalls, are surrounded by more than 26 miles of secluded shoreline dotted by canopied country roads, Christmas tree farms, picturesque waterfront homes, quaint beaches and deserted islands ideal for picnics and exploring.
